Zactran (gamithromycin) for Beef & Non-Lactating Dairy Cattle

Zactran contains gamithromycin, a macrolide sub-class antimicrobial. For treatment of bovine respiratory disease (BRD) associated with Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Histophilus somni and Mycoplasma bovis, and for control of BRD associated with Mannheimia haemolytica and Pasteurella multocida in beef and non-lactating dairy cattle. A single dose of Zactran provides up to 10 days BRD treatment and control. Administer one dose, 2 ml per 110 lbs. SQ in the neck, not to exceed 10 ml per injection site. Zactran is not for use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older, or in calves to be processed for veal. Gamithromycin 150 mg/ml.

Beef
Shipping fever, bronchial pneumonia, bovine respiratory disease, whatever term you’re most familiar with, the problem is the same – BRD. BRD can spread fast, costing beef producers $500 to $900 million per year. But you can manage the risk with ZACTRAN (gamithromycin). A single injection provides 10-day BRD treatment and control that’s both effective and economical.

Dairy
Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) creates big risks for dairy calves and heifers. Even those that recover from it can have growth, fertility and milk production deficits for life. BRD affects not only your calves and heifers – but also your bottom line – hard. You can manage the risk with ZACTRAN (gamithromycin). A single injection provides 10-day BRD treatment and control that’s both effective and economical.

In the beef industry, BRD accounts for 75% of feedlot sickness, up to 70% of feedlot deaths and $900 million in annual losses.1-4 As for dairy heifers, BRD accounts for 22.5% of deaths in pre-weaned dairy heifers, 46.5% of deaths in weaned dairy heifers and long-term performance losses.5-9

During weaning, calves are faced with many stressors. This stress can cause immunosuppression in a calf, decreasing its ability to respond to disease-causing pathogens and vaccines, making it even more susceptible to BRD. And once calves are affected by BRD, there are both immediate and long-lasting effects on health and performance. But you can manage the risk with ZACTRAN. A single administration provides 10-day BRD treatment and control.

PRECAUTIONS
The effects of ZACTRAN on bovine reproductive performance, pregnancy, and lactation have not been determined. Subcutaneous injection of ZACTRAN may cause a transient local tissue reaction in some cattle that may result in trim loss of edible tissues at slaughter.

WARNINGS
Do not treat cattle within 35 days of slaughter. Because a discard time in milk has not been established, do not use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older. A withdrawal period has not been established for this product in pre-ruminating calves. Do not use in calves to be processed for veal.

  • Sizes Available: 100, 250, 500 mL
  • Do not use in calves to be processed for veal
  • Do not treat cattle within 35 days of slaughter
  • Do not use in female dairy cattle 20 months of age or older
  • BRD bacteria reside in the upper respiratory tract of all cattle, even healthy animals
