ShutOut is an antibiotic-free teat sealant the prevention of new intramammary infections in dairy cattle throughout the dry period. An ergonomically- friendly, dual-tip syringe gives producers the flexibility to choose between the preferred short tip or the long tip for administration. Aids in the prevention of new intramammary infections throughout the dry period by forming a barrier in the teat canal. Recommended to be used as part of a preventative integrated and holistic herd health approach to dry cow management and mastitis control. Adds extra protection during dry cow period by supplementing cow’s natural keratin plug. Ergonomically-friendly, dual-tip syringe gives the flexibility to choose between either the preferred short tip or the long tip for administration.
Withdrawal information: For use in dry cows only. Zero-day milk and meat withdrawal when used alone. If administered following an antibiotic infusion, the withdrawl periods for meat and milk for the antibiotic must be observed.
Directions: For use on cattle. After last milking at dry-off, clean and disinfect teats with alcohol wipes provided and infuse entire contents of one syringe into each quarter. Do not massage teat following infusion. If an antibiotic is infused into teat, teat should be re-wiped with alcohol wipes prior to infusion with ShutOut.

As dairy farmers have likely noticed, long-lasting intramammary antibiotics (also called dry cow tubes) are in very tight supply this year. While not much can be done about the current shortage, it leads to the question of alternatives. Switching to a different intramammary antibiotic isn’t always the answer, as each antibiotic has a different spectrum of activity against specific bacteria. Concurrently, extended milk or meat withholds are often less desirable as well. One potential alternative is selective dry cow therapy (SDCT), which has been gaining in popularity over the last few years. Let’s take a closer look at SDCT.
