AccuMast Plates (4 Count)

Mastitis is a hugely costly disease in cattle. It affects milk yields, pregnancy rates and can sadly result in early culling. It is also highly damaging to animal welfare, affecting the wellbeing of cows. The main cost to farmers from mastitis is not from the expense of treatment, but from the impact it has on the milk yield. For example, the milk from an affected cow is withdrawn from sale during the period it receives antibiotic treatment. There are losses too from having to throw away milk contaminated by the presence of antibiotics. Additionally, there are costs associated with reduced cow longevity caused by early culling. Therefore, it is essential that farmers can equip themselves with an effective tool for mastitis testing and the detection of pathogens that cause infection.

FERA Diagnostics Accumast Mastitis Detection Plates accurately and quickly diagnose mastitis-causing pathogens. This easy-to-use, on-farm diagnostic culture plate detects gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, including E. coli, klebsiella, pseudomonas, Streptococcus uberis, Streptococcus spp., Enterococcus spp., Lactococcus lactis, Staph spp., Staph aureus, and S. haemolyticus. Media plates are broken down into 3 sections; gram-negative, Streptococcus spp., and Staphylococcus spp. These are selective media—specific bacteria will only grow in the designated section. Accumast also uses color-based classification of bacteria, making it easy to identify different mastitis pathogens. Provides accurate results to determine the best course of treatment for selective therapy. Implementing Accumast milk culture plates for mastitis detection can help decrease antibiotic use while enhancing the health of your dairy cows. Produced in a sterile environment to eliminate contamination.

An on-farm diagnostic kit that provides easy-to-read, color-coded results based on different mastitis pathogens. It accurately identifies all of the treatable mastitis pathogens: E. coli, Staph. aureus, Strep. uberis and Klebsiella in just 16 hours. Identify and treat only the animals that need it, saving you time and money, while improving the health of your cows and quality of the milk you ship. Keep product refrigerated and protected from light. The three media areas are large enough to put 2 different samples in each plate, cutting the cost in half. This makes the system cost neutral to other plate systems.

Instructions

1. Collect the milk from affected quarter, aseptically, into a labeled sterile vial and keep refrigerated until culture.
2. In a clean environment, using a sterile cotton-tipped swab, streak the sample onto surface of one section of the Accumast tri plate. Use a side-to-side motion and cover the entire surface of the bacterial media. Repeat process with the remaining two sections of the media.
3. Replace the lid and incubate, lid side down, for 16 hours at 37 °C (98.6 °F).
4. Between 16 and 24 hours, interpret each section of the plate based on the guide images.
